- VICE CHANCELLOR’S OFFICE
- Job Title: Risk Manager (1 Position)
Job Purpose:
Reporting to the Vice Chancellor, the Risk Manager is responsible for analyzing, identifying and determining risk management matters and develops policies and procedures as well as maintenance of University’s compliance and incidence platforms.
Main Duties and Accountabilities:
- Develop risk control and management strategies to reduce the financial and legal impact on the University.
- Evaluate the current risk management processes and determine their effectiveness in emerging future risks and trends.
- Build a risk-awareness culture in the University by spearheading and providing ongoing education and appropriate training programmes.
- Liaise with, and guide senior management and the stakeholders about the current and potential risks through reports, documentation and presentations periodically.
- Ensure that the University meets its legal and regulatory risk requirements.
- Study market trends, and implement the learnings into the risk management processes of the University.
- Lead the effective implementation of appropriate disaster recovery, business continuity, risk management and access control frameworks in the University.
- Partners with key stakeholders to develop and implement appropriate standards and systems for monitoring the effectiveness of all the risk management services and compliance; and present findings to the relevant stakeholders and governance structures.
- Identifies potential risk exposures, recommends solutions, implements approved programs, promotes loss prevention, and updates and monitors compliance.
- Manages relationships with third party service providers including brokers, underwriters, and other third-party administrators.
- Implement the University’s Ethics management programme to ensure that the organisation conducts business in an ethical and socially responsible manner.
- Manage and develop the Risk and Compliance team through effective linkage of performance management, learning and development, talent management, and Employee Value Proposition to achieve optimum performance.
- Performs any other related duties as directed by the Vice Chancellor.
Qualifications and Experience:
- Form V or Grade 12 School Certificate with 5 ‘O’ level credits or better including Mathematics and English.
- A Bachelor’s degree in Risk Management, Accountancy, Finance, Business Administration or equivalent obtained from a recognized University and/or professional qualifications such as CIMA, ACCA, CISA, FRM and CIA equivalent to a degree.
- Master’s Degree in Risk Management, Finance, business administration or equivalent
- Prior Seven (7) years’ work experience, three (3) of which must have been in a similar senior management role.
- Solid knowledge of risk management principles.
- Expert-level knowledge of MS Office, and other risk management tools
- Analytical, problem-solving and communication skills.
- Certification as a qualified Risk Management Professional (CRMP) will be an added advantage.
- Valid Membership to a relevant professional body.

- Job Title: Risk Officer (1 Position)
Job Purpose:
Reporting to the Risk Manager, the Risk Officer provides support in the function of Risk Management by identifying, assessing and mitigating various types of risk within the University.
Main Duties and Accountabilities:
- To identify and evaluate potential risk (i.e. risk assessment) that impact the University’s objectives, operations and financial health.
- To develop and implement risk mitigation strategies and actions plans to reduce or manage identified risks.
- To ensure that the organization complies with relevant laws, regulations and industry standards.
- To continuously monitor and track key risk indicators, prepare regular reports and report to Risk Manager.
- To identify and mitigate operational risks related to processes, system and human factors.
- Evaluate existing policies and procedures to find weaknesses and recommend solutions.
- Develop and maintain the University’s wide risk register.
- Performs any other related duties as directed by the Risk Manager from time to time.
Qualifications and Experience:
- Form V or Grade 12 School Certificate with 5 ‘O’ level credits or better including Mathematics and English.
- A Bachelor’s degree in Risk Management, Finance, Accountancy or equivalent obtained from a recognized University and/or professional qualifications such as CIMA, ACCA, CISA, FRM and CIA equivalent to a degree.
- A minimum of three (3) years’ work experience in a reputable organization at middle management level.
- Certification as a qualified Risk Management Professional (CRMP) will be an added advantage.
- Valid Membership to a relevant professional body.

- FINANCE DEPARTMENT
- Job Title: Senior Accountant (2 Positions)
Job Purpose
To monitor the business activities of the University through the maintenance and control of financial records. Responsible for the planning and coordination of the accounting and reporting processes, such as preparing financial and statistical reports, statements, projections and assisting outside auditors. Directly supervises the personnel involved in the general accounting functions and budgeting.
Main Duties and Responsibilities:
- Compiles information for interim and year-end financial statements and other accounting and business-related reports as necessary.
- Oversee daily processing and accounting for expenditures by departments /schools and review the reports for financial transactions.
- Analyze and interpret financial data and prepare financial reports, statements and/or projections.
- Ensure accuracy, completeness, and compliance with University and statutory requirements, and standard accounting and audit procedures. Ensure compliance with accounting standards and audit requirements of professional and regulatory agencies.
- Supervise the general accounting functions and Budgetary Control. Supervise, train, and evaluate professional and clerical personnel.
- Interact with University auditors and assist independent auditors with interim and year-end audits, as appropriate.
- Analyze internal control and other policies and recommend changes as appropriate.
- Serve on University committees that develop accounting and other policies and procedures.
- Perform other duties as may be assigned by the Supervisor.
Qualifications and Experience:
- Form V or Grade 12 School Certificate with 5 ‘O’ level credits or better including Mathematics and English.
- A minimum of a Bachelor of Accountancy Degree qualification from recognised institutions, or its equivalent.
- Professional qualification of CA Zambia, ACCA or CIMA.
- Must be a fully paid up Member of ZICA with minimum Associate membership.
- Minimum of Seven (7) years’ work experience in finance or financial management in a reputable organisation, three (3) of which must have been at middle management level.

- Skilled in preparing, analysing and presenting accurate financial reports, forecasts, and budgets.
- Thorough understanding of compliance with financial regulations, internal controls, and audit processes.

- Job Title: Accountants (3 Positions)
Job Purpose:
To control and coordinate all finance and accounting functions of the School/Unit by providing management with detailed analytical reports to aid decision making and controlling expenditures.
Main Duties and Responsibilities:
- Prepare operating and capital annual budgets and ensure budgetary control.
- Ensure that purchases of goods and services are within the budgetary parameters.
- Produce Unit monthly and quarterly management reports timely.
- Effectively record students’ financial data, debtors and reconciliations for the assigned schools and units.
- Ensure that the general accounting functions of the School / unit are carried out.
- Plan and hold regular school and departmental cost meetings.
- Advise and assist Deans and/or Head of Units on key financial deliverables.
- Carry out Bank Reconciliation for the assigned Unit or School.
- Participate in the year-end stock take to enhance efficiency.
- Perform any other duties as may be assigned by the Supervisor.
Qualifications and Experience:
- Form V or Grade 12 School Certificate with 5 ‘O’ level credits or better including Mathematics and English.
- A minimum of a Bachelor of Accountancy Degree qualification from recognised institutions, or its equivalent.
- Professional qualification of CA Zambia, ACCA or CIMA.
- Must be fully paid up Member of ZICA.
- Minimum of 5 years’ work experience in finance or financial management in a reputable organisation.
Required Competencies and Behavioural Attributes:
- Proficient in accounting principles.
- Experience in preparing and maintaining financial statements, balance sheets, and income statements.
- Skilled in using accounting software.
- Ability to reconcile accounts, perform general ledger maintenance, and resolve discrepancies efficiently.
- Knowledge of tax regulations and experience in preparing tax returns, VAT filings, and ensuring compliance with relevant laws.
- Experience in managing invoices, billing, and payment collections, ensuring accuracy and timeliness.
- Ability to assist with the preparation of budgets and financial forecasts, ensuring alignment with organisational objectives.
- Experience in assisting internal and external audits by providing necessary documentation and ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements.
- High level of accuracy in data entry, financial reporting, and reconciliations.
- Ability to identify financial discrepancies and offer solutions to improve financial processes.
- Ability to prioritize tasks effectively and manage multiple responsibilities in a deadline-driven environment.
- Meticulous in ensuring financial accuracy and thoroughness in financial data and documentation.
- Ability to communicate financial information clearly and professionally to both financial and non-financial stakeholders.
- Maintains strict confidentiality of sensitive financial data and personal information.
- Willingness to stay updated with new accounting standards, tax regulations, and financial technologies.
